Memory Lane Part One By Buddy Lane
Curt Hennig
Curt Hennig got his start in the early 80's after blowing his knee out playing college football. Curt then turned to pro wrestling, of course his father Larry the Ax Hennig was a legend and a giant of a man in the wrestling world, standing 6 3 1/2, weighing in at 325lbs.
Curt was trained by Eddie Sharkey and Verne Gagne. Curt's 1st pro match saw him teamed up with myself. We were standing behind the curtain waiting to go on. Curt was obviously nervous, his knee's shaking waiting to go on. It was fun to watch the youngster embark on his career. We were escorted by his father.
Finally, show time. His dad said to me "take care of my son Bud". We walked out to take on Bobby Duncum Sr. and the World's strongest man, Ken Patera. We tore the house down, it was a great match. I knew then that Curt would go on to greatness. You could just tell. The rest as they say, is history.
Ron Richie - The Peoples Champion
Ron was trained by myself and Fred, Mad Dog Peloquin, Chi Chi Cruz's uncle, back in the early 80's. Ron was a great all around athlete. Great body, good looks. He wrestled throughout North America, and held many titles.
Ron was known as Ric Flair's personal Chauffeur. Ron has retired with a successful family business in Calgary.
The people's champion, Ron was a great wrestler, and a great friend.
Where is he now?
He held many titles throughout his career; Wrestling in Calgary, Montreal, Puerto Rico, Maritimes, Kansas City, etc..
Of course I am talking about the blond bomber, Rick The Hammer Valentine, the 20 year wrestling veteran.
He his healthy and semi-retired from wrestling and living in Winnipeg. Rick has a great job working with troubled youths, and is doing great. And of course, he was trained on the mat by none other than Buddy Lane.
